The team meets at Candlekeep (but first at a tavern)

While traveling along the Sword Coast, Tybalt, Reginald, Luocious, Nox, and Gudetama decide to rest at the Dragon's Breath, a tavern known for it's cheap beer and food. Whilst each takes a break inside, pondering the adventures and decisions that led them here, a lad rushes into the tavern and asks for help--someone has died in their nearby village and he needs to find the scholar Matreous who will know what to do next; he asked for help from strangers, and our heroes strangely agreed. They're told Matreous has travelled to Candlekeep for magical studies, and are asked to find him there and bring him back. Each stalwart do-gooderis given an unusual book in order to gain entry to Candlekeep and the adventurers set out walking to the legendary fortress of knowledge.

Upon arrival, they are greeted by Avowed gatekeepers--acolytes working at Candlekeep--and are shown to a room where Matreous, a researcher of portals and dimensional magic, is staying and was last seen. The team finds the room empty excepft for a heavy tome with a spellcaster's face rather egotistically embossed on the front cover.

Soon the team learns the following from the Avowed: the room used to be inhabited by a mage named Fistandia, yet another researcher with a keen interest in dimensional spaces, and the book the team discovered is by none other than Mordenkainen himself!
Tybalt notices marginalia (in Fistandia's handwriting) within the book that has the word "scepter" underlined. Not so surprisingly when he speaks the word, a translucent door unfolds before them, weird geometry crackling at its edges. As it begins to fade, Tybalt and Luocious step through and the rest of the group follows.
